Mathematician seeks out patterns formulate new conjuncture and establish the truth by rigorous deduction from appropriately chosen axioms and definitions. The department of mathematics come into existence since the inception of the college in the year 1997. Since then the department has been running following the guidelines provided by UGC.

Detail of Activity

A Summer Camp was being organized by Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya, Bhilai for underprivileged children and children of non teaching staff from 23rd May 2014 to 29th May 2014. Children were taught how to operate computers .i.e. basic fundamental of computer. Children were taught tricks and techniques of paper craft and solving basic Maths, English grammar etc. Various other kinds of play-full activities were also performed by children like patriotic songs skit and dance. Children were also had a visit to college library and science laboratories.

World Maths Day was celebrated on Tuesday, 15/10/2019 at Shri Shankaracharya College, Junwani, Bhilai. In which M.Sc. First and third and B.Sc. And B.C.A. All of the students participated enthusiastically. Under this, rangoli competition, poster competition and essay writing competition were organized. All the teachers of the college were present in this program. The director and principal of the college Dr. Dr. Raksha Singh said that such inspiring programs are organized in the college from time to time. So that students are encouraged by such programs in daily life and adopt the spirit of cooperation in facing new challenges. In this program, Additional Director of the college Dr. J. Durga Prasad Rao was also involved. He said that these types of programs infuse new energy in all of us and inspire us to move forward on the life path. On this occasion, Head of the Department of Mathematics, Smt. Preeti Srivastava said that all the students of Mathematics made this program successful with all their energy and also appreciated the spirit of cooperation with their bright future. MINI - MTTS PROGRAMME, IIT BHILAI

A week-long mini-MTTS Programme inaugurated on Monday, 16 December 2019 at IIT, Bhilai.Three selected students of B.Sc. of SSMV (Ekta Agrawal,Varsha  Verma ,Lavnaya Patel) are attending the program to enable themselves for higher aspects in Mathematics.
On behalf of SSMV,Dr. Raksha Singh, Principal & Director, Mrs. Preeti Shrivastava, HoD Mathematics and  Mrs Usha Sao, student-mentor&Asst Prof. were present to motivate and support the participating students.
The inauguration session event graced by Prof. Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Bhilai.The Organizing Trust welcomed & appreciated the efforts put by our College to coordinate for the Programme in entire Durg District and we were given opportunity to introduce our College from the dais of the Programme.

Name of Activity - An online quiz competition on 15th May 2020. The competition was based on the general knowledge of COVID19 virus. More than 764 people participated in the open online quiz. Each participant also received an online generated E- Certificate. Also, participants received a personal email containing their score and grade with correct answers. The aim of the competition was to check and update people regarding COVID19 and break the myths surrounding the main information. The quiz met its all desired aim and was widely received by people. Name of Activity - THE ESSAY COMPETITION AT UNIVERSITY LEVEL Miss Priya Prajapati of M.Sc. (Mathematics) Semester – IV sem. has been selected one among the five candidates for her best essay on the topic “Efforts made by Higher Education to Meet the Challenges of Corona Pandemic”. Hemchand Yadav University Durg organized an online essay competition on the occasion of its establishment day. The essay was organized for all collegial students on the current topic of Corona and how Higher Education is meeting with the challenges raised by the pandemic. The competition was organized in both Hindi and English languages and the best five were selected from the entries. Selected five students from different colleges will receive an online certificate by the end of 31st May. Also, these selected students will be awarded soon after the threat of Corona virus ends in an official ceremony. Date - 31/05/2020

Name of Activity- How to make mask by video on 9 July 2020. In today's context, the mask has become an essential accessory in our daily wear. Also, studies have shown that wearing a mask protects the person from the virus many times even at the contact with an infected person. But wearing a mask for a longer duration of time can be tiresome and frustrating especially for those who wear study spectacles all the time. Name of Activity- On the occasion of ‘Foundation Day’ of the college i.e; on 05th July, The Department of Mathematics celebrated that the day with plants. The department including all faculty members and students of M.Sc. planted a sapling in front of their houses and offered their gratefulness towards the institution. Moreover, it was the 25th Foundation Day of the college and it has remained a tradition to celebrate the day by planting one plant a year but this year every staff member of the college planted sapling remembering fond memories of the college in their homes. This year despite many difficulties the college maintained to continue the gracious chain of tradition with their fight against COVID 19.

ONLINE SESSION IN SHRI SHANKARACAHARYA MAHAVIDYALAYA ON “CAREER COUNSELLING” Department of Mathematics, Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya organized an online counseling session on 28th November in collaboration with Tejas IAS Academy, Bhilai. The session was attended by 67 students of both UG and PG levels. The motto was to aware learners regarding various job opportunities for their future. In the present context, during COVID – 19 pandemic time, many youths have lost their jobs and many more are confused regarding their future job security and scope. The session was an attempt to help all those in need and guide them towards their respective paths. Mr Vinay Singh, Director Tejas IAS Academy informed students about the various available opportunities and how they make themselves future ready. Assistant Professor P. Prajapati was the anchor of the whole session; HOD Mathematics Mrs Preeti Shrivastava gave the vote of thanks. Director & Principal Dr Raksha Singh appreciated the program and hope that such programs will be conducted in future too. Adll. Coming on Madhava Mathematics 2020-21

ONLINE CERTIFICATE COURSE On VEDIC MATHS & BASIC MATHEMATICS The Department of Mathematics, Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya Junwani, Bhilai organized “Online Certificate Course on Vedic Maths and Basic Mathematics” from 01 February 2021 to 13 February 2021. More than thirty-five candidates attended the course online. Mr Irshadul Islam, an Assistant Professor at Farook Institute of Management Studies Calicut in Kerala and a Business Consultant for various SMEs in South India was the resource person for the starting sessions on Vedic Maths. Ashutosh Tiwari, an Alumni of SSMV, was the resource person for the sessions on Basic Mathematics. The participants were keen to learn more and hence the course was extended to 15 February on the demand of students. Ruby Dubey, student MSc and Monesh Kumar, student B.Sc were student moderator for the sessions where students raised their queries. Also, tests were conducted at regular intervals to check the development of students. Certificates were distributed towards the end of the course. REPORT OF THE OBSERVATORY BOARD: The online certificate course was found to be a thrilling experience for the participants. The sessions were lively due to active participations and their intellectual presentations made the entire corse fruitful. There were some network glitches that were solved timely sometimes. Also, idea of such course was unique which will pave new path for the followers. Mathematics 3 rd semester of SSMV, in pursuit of excellence in Higher Mathematics, got enrolled in Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme notably known as mini-MTTS Programme organized by Department of Mathematics, Indian Institute of Technology Bhilai Regional Workshop onResearch and opportunities the topic "Indian Women and Mathematics (IWM)". 04 students going to be held 21/02/2021 Mrs Priya Prajapati Asst. Event Date:- Mathematics department of Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya celebrated National Pie day on 14th March 2022 on virtual mode to recognise the mathematical constant, Pi. Pi Day also coincides with the birth anniversary of scientist Albert Einstein. To make this celebration more joyful, students of maths department made Pi structure in the various fun art and craft forms.

The Department of Mathematics conducted a Guest Lecture The Department of Mathematics conducted a Guest Lecture on 25 May 2022 on the Topic - *Operations Research and It's Applications.* The Resource Person was *Dr Hemant Sao* Professor Mathematics *Govt Digvijay PG College Rajnandgaon.* Addressing the Students and faculties of Mathematics, he explained many substantial aspects of the topic and made it very interesting by involving the science behind it. The session was very informative and interective and ended with many students requesting for more such sessions.

On the occasion of the birthday of Srinivasan Ramanujan, 'Mathematical Day' was organized by the Mathematics Department of Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya, Junwani Bhilai. This competition organized on 22 Dec 2022. On this occasion, video, power point presentation, sketch, bar code, were demonstrated by the graduate students. In this program, the students discussed in the group and told about the famous Indian mathematicians through Video. Famous Indian mathematician Arya Bhatt discovered 'zero', G.H. Hardy explained his achievements in number theory and mathematical analysis. He was the teacher of the Indian Mathematician Sri Nivasan Ramanujan. The Twins Prince G stated that a twin prime is a prime number that is either two less than or two more than any other prime number. The students told Mathematicians have a great contribution in the field of mathematics through power point presentation. The credit for the invention of zero goes to the Indians. Arya Bhatt, Brahmagupta, Ramanujan ji, Shakuntala Devi, Neena Gupta etc. have been great mathematicians in India, who have made their name not only in India but in the whole world by their work. The age calculator, currency calculator, Vedic maths etc. were demonstrated through QR code and also the sketch of great mathematician Srinivasan Ramanujan was also displayed in this program. Principal of the college, Dr. Archana Jha congratulated the professors for the success of the program and also encouraged the students to organize programs on other important subjects in future.

On the Third day webinar Organized on the topic "Strategies to Crack Competitive Level Examination in the field of Mathematical Science" in Association with “Institute for Advanced Studies”, Pune on 04/02/2023.

The purpose of the webinar is to giving knowledge regarding competitive exam like NET, SET, IIT, GATE etc. The session was taken by Mr. Chandan Kumar, Assistant Professor. In their session they enlighten both of the Graduation and Post-Graduation Students. In this session he explain eligibility criterion, syllabus, how to crack above competitive exam in easy way to, about junior Research Fellowship Stipend and many more.

 On the Fourth day of this celebration, Mathematics Department organized objective question competition at Govt. middle school, Chikhali. The objective questions include Mathematics Reasoning, Statistics, Number System, Algebra, Mensuration, etc. A total of 74 students participated in this program, including 23 students of class 6th, 19 students of class 7th, 32 students of class 8th. The students Participated in this competition with great enthusiasm. This type of competition encourage the student and beneficial for the Future.

On fifth day, the Guest lecture was taken by Dr. M.S. Gupta, Assistant Professor of NPG Science College, Raipur. The Topic of the session was ‘Does Mathematics Exist Everywhere?. In his session he explained all the use of mathematics in Managing time, Budgeting, Sports, Cooking, Exercising and Dieting, Driving, Home Decorating, Stitching, Critical Thinking, also explain mathematics is the base of other Subjects, etc. and said that math is very useful in everyday life and math can help us do many things that are important in our everyday lives.

On the Sixth day of program workshop was held. The Key-note speaker of the workshop was Mr. Suresh Pathak, Head of computer Department in IG Govt of Art and Science College, Rishali, Bhilai. The topic of Workshop is “Use of Mathematics in Computer Programming”. In his session he explain five type of basic Math used in Computer science i.e. Calculus, Linear Algebra, Binary Mathematics, discrete Mathematics, and statistics. He explained all the topic in easy way and the session was very beneficial for the student. He also motivate the student toward mathematics.

 On the Seventh day, the Workshop was taken by Dr. Mamta Singh, Assistant Professor, Sai College Sector- 6, Bhilai. The Topic of the Workshop was “LATEX”. The Objective of the Programme was to make students aware about Latex Report Writing and its importance, to develop student skills to prepare project reports and research papers in LATEX by using different LATEX commands and to create the environment where students can learn from students itself and motivate students to develop skills to deliver workshop. She also explained use of LATEX in Mathematical Formulas.

National Mathematics Day is celebrated every 22nd of December in honor of the birthday of Shri Srinivasan Ramanujan, the esteemed mathematical genius renowned for his remarkable contributions to the field. In a college setting, the purpose of this celebration is to raise awareness and emphasize the significance of mathematics in daily life through various activities such as poster competitions, PowerPoint presentations, quiz competitions, workshops on mathematical software, model preparation, competitions, and guest lectures. The endeavor is not only to educate participants about modern-day mathematics but also to shed light on ancient mathematical approaches.

The primary objective of the exhibition was to instill a passion for learning mathematics among students. It featured exhibits showcasing various techniques of Vedic mathematics aimed at simplifying subject learning and boosting students' confidence in the learning process. Both undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) students actively participated, with each class presenting and explaining models they had created on different topics. It was evident that all students had enthusiastically researched and actively engaged in the exhibition. The models presented were monitored and created under the guidance of their teachers. Teachers accompanied students from all classes, taking rounds to appreciate the hard work of their peers. There was a notable sense of appreciation as students spoke and explained their models in detail.

Undergraduate students demonstrated their comprehension of the subject through lively jingles, while postgraduate students brought geometry to life by illustrating different angles with yoga poses. In a delightful turn of events, all students participated in an interactive Ramanujan magic square bingo, effectively summarizing key mathematical concepts.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Santosh Miri, Assistant Professor at St. Thomas College, Bhilai, on the topic of "LATEX". The aim of the program was to familiarize students with Latex Report Writing and its significance, to enhance students' skills in preparing project reports and research papers using various Latex commands, and to create an environment conducive to peer learning and skill development. Dr. Miri also elaborated on the use of Latex in formatting mathematical formulas.

On December 25, 2023, a guest lecture on Vedic mathematics was delivered by Mr. K.L. Sahu, a lecturer from the Government Higher Secondary School in Borsi. Mr. Sahu shared insights into Vedic Maths with all the students, offering them handy tricks to tackle competitive exams more effectively. The lecture simplified Vedic mathematics for NSS volunteers and students of the Government School in Borsi, demonstrating how to predict which day of the week would fall in the calendar for the upcoming new year. Additionally, Mr. Sahu adeptly showcased how to determine the day of the week corresponding to one's birth date in the previous year, a fascinating application often referred to as "magical mathematics."

The Department of Mathematics organized a free Vocational Training Program for both M.Sc. and B.Sc. (Maths) students, spearheaded by the Head of Department, Dr. Preeti Shrivastava. The primary objective of this program was to equip students with methodologies and tools for predicting future management trends. As part of the training program, a lecture was delivered by Gautam Kumar Singh, a Career Advisor from Avish Educom, focusing on career courses and modular courses. This training program proved to be highly productive, providing a platform for intellectual exchange across different sectors and facilitating the acquisition of new knowledge and skills.

Quiz organised on Intercollege Fest “Hunar”

The Mathematics Quiz competition was organized to raise awareness about the contributions of Sir Srinivasa Ramanujan and to foster critical thinking among students. A total of nine students from the 2nd and 3rd years enthusiastically participated in the event. At the conclusion of the session, the winners were congratulated and awarded prizes, while participation certificates were distributed to all participants. The students expressed their gratitude, remarking that the program was highly exciting and interesting.

(Maths) and B.Sc. (Maths) joined and all students completed the course successfully.
