Department of English

The Department of English was established in the year 1997 since the inception of the college. English being a highly acclaimed link language invites special interest of the young and the promising students from all over the country. It is a well known fact that the rich tradition of English literature has influenced the literaturesof the world. With this view in mind M.A. course was introduced in the department in 2002.

The Department of English covers, enriches and reinforces the rich heritage offered by literature, facilitate ideas that provoke, produce and nurture critical as well as creative thinking, develops inherent values and builds an emotional and intellectual connectivity between the studentsand thesociety. The curriculum for both UG and PG programmes develop rich talents in students, offers industrial environment and is relevant, connecting to every aspect of society. A dynamic environment coupled with a meaningful stress on all-round educational effectiveness facilitates an attitude that lays emphasis on moral, social and intellectual ethics.

  • Aashish Tamrakar of M. A. English IV semester participated in the presentation of 'Bharat Ki Santaan' a unique programme under National Youth Project, New Delhi of Linguistic National Integration held at Sri Guru Gobind Singh National Integration Youth Camp, Patna Bihar which has helped strengthening the spirit of National Integration in the Country from 21-26 January 2017.
  • Aashish Tamrakar of M. A. English IV semester performed in a Mime act on "Portrayal of Shakespearean Characters' in his Plays" in the Inaugural Ceremony of the NAAC sponsored National Conference on "Innovative Approaches in Teaching, Learning & Evaluation" held on 14-15 February 2017 in Shri Shankaracharya Mahavidyalaya Junwani, Bhilai (C.G.)

  • Students and staff of M. A. English II & IV semester celebrated World Poetry Day on 21st March 2017. The students of PG classes Aashish Tamrakar, Jasprit Kaur, Anita Singh, Divya Bharti, Sheetal Singh, Soniya, Vaibhav Shah, Surbhi Sharma, and Kalpana Sahu have taken active participation in the event by reciting the poems of William Wordsworth, S T Coleridge, John Keats, Mathew Arnold etc.
  • Afrin Khan and Nilesh Bhojak of B.Com. has been awarded with top performer in Category 2 (college UG/PG) essay writing competition on the topic "The Whole Purpose of Education is to Turn Mirrors into Windows" in the All India Essay Writing Event 2016 organized by Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) & United Nations Information Centre for India & Bhutan (UNIC) on 15 January 2017 in Raipur.
  • Yasha Mishra and Shagufta of  B.Com  1st year has been awarded with top performer in Category 2 (college UG/PG) essay writing competition in the All India Essay Writing Event 2018 organized by Shri Ram Chandra Mission (SRCM) & United Nations Information Centre for India & Bhutan (UNIC) with collaboration of  college department of English.

  • The central library of the college has a good collection of subject books, books on Grammar, Dictionaries, reference books, literary works, journals and back volumes which gives a greater opportunity for language and literature students for reference.
