About the department

It won't be wrong if one say that Chemistry is the soul of Science. This is so, because chemistry plays very important part in every stream of science. Department of Chemistry was established in the year 1997. Department has a well-equipped laboratory to meet out the practical as per the latest syllabus of the university. Chemistry department actively entertains the curricular needs with participation of departments of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Botany, Zoology and Mathematics. Our library is enriched with a total of 230 books and several journals. Modern ways of teaching viz. OHP, DLP along with traditional chalk-talk method has been followed for comparatively better grasping of topics & to overcome with their chemophobia i.e. fear of chemicals. Students are also assigned practical projects to enrich their practical knowledge.

 Moreover, WhatsApp is also used as a tool for teaching. Students are also assigned practical projects to enrich their practical knowledge. Use of animations was also implemented to the teaching methodologies, along with the traditional chalk-talk method.  Further, the students are encouraged for personality development. To meet out this objective, department of Chemistry conducts a weekly personality development class, entitled as “Guru-waar”. The students are assigned with JAMs, Ice-breaking sessions and presentations as tools for their personality development.

  1. Faculty:
  • Vikas Chandra Sharma was honoured by:“Shiksha- KeertiSammaan” on Teachers Day by Rotary Club, Bhilai on 5th Sep2017.
  1. Students’ Achievement:
  • HardikThakkar of Sc. Part I has participated in Speech competition (75th anniversary of Bharat ChhodoAandolan) organized by Govt. V.Y.T. PG Auto. College,Durg and won second price.
  • BheentuVermaSc. III has Bhilai Steel Plant vigilance awareness week-speech competition and got consolation prize. He also participated in NCC Republic Day Parade at New Delhi.
  • Shubham Moon of B.Sc. III has has participated in NSS pre–republic day parade camp at Dr. B.R. Ambedker University campus, Agra, UP.

  • Computer with Internet connection has been provided to the department for the staff & students to be in touch with current global scenario.
  • Along with traditional chalk-talk method, advance methodologies like OHP, DLP, Smart board for effecting grasping of topics are also been adopted by the department.
  • Department has a well-equipped laboratory as well to meet out the practicals well.

Extra-curricular activities:

        Department of Chemistry, in collaboration with rest of the Science departments, has initiated organizing Science Fest from the session 2017-18. The inaUndergraduateural Science fest was given title “Aagaz” & it was based on theme “The Agronomic India”. Entire event was designed with focus on agricultural background of India, like the students were doing ramp-walk as farmers, vegetable sellers etc. The main objective behind organizing Science fest was to promote the Science aspirants to come-up with their unseen as well as hidden talent, which in turn will lead to build up their confidence.
